Thinking of starting a business?

Keep the following in mind:

Accept the demoralizing stage. Starting out in business with no reputation and little experience will lead to rejections. But accept this dim period, it’s this stage that separates the wannabes from the gonna-bes. So be prepared to be treated unfairly at the start until the unfairness is tired of bothering you.

Accept feeling lonely. When starting out in business you usually have more responsibility than your friends or family. But you must accept this so that you can use the all your time to achieve your goal.

Setbacks. No matter how many plans you write, how many qualifications you have on your C.V. making mistakes in business is set in stone. So don’t hold yourself back by being afraid to make mistakes, instead release yourself into the unknown and learn.

Working longer hours. When working for yourself it’s vital that you stay on top of things. With less capital than large corporations, you need to get a lot of work done by yourself. In order to do this you need to utilize your full 24 hours effectively.

Facing your fears. When starting a business getting results will usually call for you to step out of your comfort zone. But, in order to move to the next level, you will have to get used to facing your fears. This might feel nerve wracking but when you get rewarded for your hard efforts with cash I’m sure you’ll look back on those awkward situations with a smile.

I challenge you to a duel!!!

Imagine if everything was settled with a "Duel" like in the olden days. I'm not talking weapons or dirty tactics, I just mean a simple bare knuckle fight, like the movie "Fight Club"

For example:

Scenario 1:
You meet a girl and she says ... "I have a boyfriend", to which you reply, "Well have him meet me in the alley behind the club, I challenge him to a duel!"

Scenario 2:
You're at the mall during the Christmas rush, as you go to turn into the parking spot a lady in a piece of crap car tries to force herself into the space you were patiently waiting for ... you both exit your vehicles and settle it with a duel.

Scenario 3:
You walk into work late for the first time, after battling a snowstorm, bumper to bumper traffic and accidents scattered all over your route and your supervisor greets you, "Johnson, you're late I'm going to have to write you up", to which you smirk and reply, "Let's duel."

Now you tell me Mr or Mrs reader, would this not solve so many of the issues and "problems" we have on a daily basis? They would be very easily eliminated. A level of respect would be gained by all those who have dueled there way to the top and step over and around lesser competitors.

What's the difference between a joke and a lie?

Has anyone ever had you believe something that was not true for an extended period of time, then to say once you confront them about it ... "it was a joke".

That's not a joke, that's what you call a LIE.

To me ... a joke is meant to be shared and enjoyed at the time it is made (except for those slow people who get it a few hours later). (ex "What did the hand say to the face? SMACK!")

Conversely ... a lie is stating something opposite to or in direct contradiction to the truth.

I know I've been guilt of saying the most random ridiculous things and to help the audience feel less offensive, break the tension with a "just joking". But that's completely different.

Ex. "I want to have a threesome with you and your sister."
"What?!?!?"
"Just joking"

Ex. "I think I might have given you something, you should go to the doctor right away and get checked out, because I'm on my way now ... I'm so sorry"

Bathroom Etiquette

Lesson #1 - while I'm standing at the john, holding my manhood, this is not the time to ask me: How my day is going? What I'm doing for the weekend? What's this discoloration? Can I help? Why you so big? or any other question of that nature. As a matter of fact, you should say nothing! I've heard people compare "taking a leak" to having sex (in terms of the release and feeling of relaxation). Keep that in mind, when you think to "make conversation" while I'm trying to relieve myself.

10 THINGS KEEP IN MIND WHEN TRAVELING ANYWHERE

On a recent trip with my closest friends and family I noticed that most people fail to plan their trip from how they are getting to the airport, what to do when they get to their destination and to how they are getting from the airport back to their home. When I came home I really tried to develop a list of things to keep in mind, in order for you to really enjoy your trip and don't come back home complaining and disgruntled.

So here it goes.... you can thank me later.....

1. PLAN AHEAD, PLAN FOR CHANGE IN PLANS- If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

2. BE OPEN-MINDED- try everything and go anywhere just be safe

3. DO NOT RELY ON GPS- Technology can be wrong too so be aware of your route.

4. MAKE DIRECTIONS- Learn how to use a map and follow it to your location.

5. PACK YOUR OWN FOOD- There is no better food than home cooked food period.

6. FIRST AID KIT- Using your own first aid is key in case of emergency.

7. STAY ALERT- When traveling it is easy to be passive, remember you are not at home so be aware of your surroundings.

8. BRING ENOUGH MONEY- When you are on vacation anything can happen.

9. WHEN IN ROME THEORY- Act as if.... do not look lost and if you are lost find your way quickly.

10. EXPECT NOT TO SLEEP- When on vacation, every minute counts. Rest when you can and enjoy every second of your vacation.

What Do You Do When You Lose Your Job

So what do you do if you find yourself out of work?  Here are 9 Things to Do if You Lose Your Job:

1. Tell your family not to panic. Yes, things are going to be different for the short- or medium-term, but you’ll weather this together. You need to have a clear sense of what your priorities are so that you can work together to get through this without fighting, bitching, snarking, crying, or being a’feard.

2. Tell everyone you know that you need a job. Many jobs never make it to the advertisement pages since people in a company will be asked if they want the job, or if they know of anyone they could recommend for the job. The more people you tell the better your chances are that someone will put forward your name. Be clear about what kind of job you are seeking and what your skills are, and someone may be able to help you get a new job. But also be open to experiencing something new, and using your skills in different ways. If you hated your last job, don’t get another one just like it.

3. Apply for employment insurance benefits. While this is usually barely enough to keep body and soul together, it’s still better than a kick in the teeth. If you find employment before your benefits begin you can always cancel the claim.

4. Start looking for a job. Dust off your resume. Hit the web. Some part-time work that supplements your income while you’re looking for a full-time job will help to keep you busy and focused on making things happen. One of the biggest problems with unemployment isn’t just the lack of money, it’s the abundance of time and the sense that this will never end. Get busy.

5.  Cut your expenses. First, you need to cut back to the bare minimum so that you can make your emergency fund (you have one of these, right?) last as long as possible. Ditto your employment insurance benefits, your severance, your partner’s income or whatever else you may have that you can use.  Cancel the cable, decide between the home telephone and the cell phone, don’t buy anything that isn’t food, and consider your quarters your entertainment budget. Second, since you may not find a job paying the same money, you need to decide what your Basic Costs of a Good Life are so you know how much salary you can live without.

6. Talk to your creditors. Don’t ignore your bills. Contact your creditors and explain your problem. Offer to make regular smaller payments that you can afford for a short period of time. Ask for an interest rate concession. Get those credit payments in line with your new income.

7. Embrace change.  In all likelihood if your industry is in retreat you’re not going to find a similar job for similar money easily.  Two part-time jobs may be as good as one full-time. Contract work may be a good option for rebalancing your life. Business opportunities may present themselves and you’ll have to have your eyes open to take advantage of them. Don’t be closed to a relocation if that’s what it takes to get you back on track.

8. Take care of yourself.  Don’t climb on the couch and hide. Don’t dig into a big tub of cookie-dough ice-cream. Don’t stop exercising, socializing, empathizing. If you find yourself becoming really sad about your situation, find someone to talk to about it. Don’t let yourself go into a nose-dive. Keep to a schedule and keep your focus. Volunteer so that you can keep meeting new people, widening your network, and putting more people into the job-hunt on your behalf. Take a course to update your skills or learn new ones.

9. Keep your sense of humour. When things get tough, our funny bone is the first to go. Don’t let it. You can do so much when you’re smiling. Your interviewers will see you differently. Your family will be reassured. Your friends won’t run and hide when you call. Hang on to that funny bone!

There’s no longer such a thing as a Job for Life. Gone are the days when you retired from the first company that hired you. The new reality is that you can expect to have up to eight – count ‘em EIGHT – careers over your working life.

How to stay awake at work!!

You know that feeling. You've had lunch and now you've got several more hours to kill before quitting time. You're sitting there feeling lethargic and drowsy. You glance at the clock and see that it's only 1:15pm. You're annoyed at the thought of trying to stay awake and get some work done. Time drags.

We all have natural slumps in energy during the day. Here's some tips to stay awake and improve your alertness:

Eat Protein

Eating enough protein with your lunch will boost your energy levels. Proteins contained in meats and cheeses will do the trick. Snacking on nuts will also give you more energy.

Sing Something

Singing a tune will invigorate your soul and send oxygen racing through your blood stream. It doesn't matter if you have a nice singing voice or not, just be sure not to annoy your co-workers if you choose to go this route.

Avoid the Vending Machine

I know, I know. That machine filled with lots of goodies may be calling your name and trying to lure you into taking a sugar-filled snack, but you must resist the temptation. That candy bar will only give you a temporary boost. Soon enough, you'll come crashing down from your sugar high and the feeling of burnout will return.

Reduce Computer Glare

Eye strain causes fatigue. This is a big problem for people who work in offices where they spend a lot of time staring at their computer screens. Try to take breaks and periodically look away from your screen and focus your eyes on something else for a few minutes. Better yet, get an anti-glare filter for your computer screen.

Meditate

Research shows that meditation is great for increasing alertness. Close your eyes and think pleasant thoughts or visualize yourself doing something you love. When you open your eyes, you'll be refreshed.

Take a Break Outside

Escape your office or cubicle and get some fresh air. Exposure to a natural environment will immediately wake you up. If you can't get outside, then sit or stand next to a window for several minutes, gazing outside.

Stay Hydrated

Dehydration can zap your energy by up to 15%, so it's a good idea to drink water throughout the day.

What Not To Do On Your First Date

For all our younger viewers who are in the dating game here are some interesting tips as to what not to do on your first date:

1. Yell at your date for being late

2. Trip over objects on the ground

3. Eat food and then continue the date with food in your teeth

4. Talk to your date with bad breath ( make sure you maintain fresh breath)

5. Don't be too aggressive when it comes to closing the date with sex

6. Get pulled over by the police for driving too fast (take your time)

7. Talking on your phone for the entire date

8. Bring your date home late, if she lives at home (chances are her parents won't let her out for a second date)

9. Try to kiss your date without them giving you the indicating signs (you'll know when)

10. Make sure your nose is clean (being properly groomed is a bonus)

Public Service Announcement: Swagger or Swag?

Okay everyone it is now 2009! 

In case you haven't already heard someone saying, explaining or using this word out of context its time for us here at Two Grasshoppers to clarify the definition of the word Swag and why we should put it to rest in the 2009. 

Swag or Swagger (pronounced swa-ag or swa-agger) apperance ,style ,or the way he or she presents them selves.

This word was predominantly used in the last quarter of 2007 and all of 2008. It is now 2009, in case you have not heard the new word is Splash.  I will now proceed with the definition of this awesome word.

Splash meaning being fly or "stuntin", an ostentatious display of material wealth.

As the famous DJ Clue has said on his various mixtapes in the mid to late 90's " Remember where you heard it first"
