It's easy to sit there and think you got it the worse.

Another end of the world movie?!?!

In recent memory I question why are there so many movies about the end of the world?

Don't believe me ... think about it ... Armageddon, Independence Day, Day After Tomorrow, I am Legend and most recently 2012.

I think it's in order to instill fear in society and create greater dependencies on the system. Whoa, I know, some of you may think I'm reaching a little bit but think about it. Whenever you or someone has seen one of these movies leaves the theatre you can't help but wonder or think, "What if that really did happen?", "What if the world ended in 2012?". (SEE, now they have you thinking from a fearful perspective).

BUT, what I really think it's about especially in times like these, movies of this type are meant to ignite or spark the economy. If you are faced with you own mortality, most people are encouraged, motivated or eager to live what remaining life you have to the fullest. Buying that thing you always wanted, taking that trip you've been putting off, investing in something you always dream about.

So maybe these movies are a good thing, for the economy and overall morale. Maybe all movies should be about the potential destruction, demise, or obliteration of the Earth.

I still don't think so, but that's me ... what do you think?

Must see movie.


I finally watched The Curious Case of Benjamin Button this weekend.

For the longest time I've slept on this movie, thinking it was just another one of those "must see movies" that all the critics and hollywood media recommend you see, like Titanic, that in the end aren't that good.

I watch a lot of movies and for me to say these words takes a lot, this movie is a MUST SEE.

Not because of the acting or the individual characters, but because of the story and the concept. This movie highlights features of life and the world we live in, that many of us surely take for granted like TIME, RELATIONSHIPS and DECISIONS.

I will say no more, watch the movie and form your own opinion.

He's being too nice, something's up.

I was talking to a lady friend of mine and she let me in on a little secret about you ladies.

She told me that in a relationship many woman are constantly under the impression they are being cheated on and that's just based off of their own insecurities. She went on to explain that when guys do nice things like buy flowers, surprise them with a gift or take them some place nice, this exacerbates this feeling as they think he is trying to make up for "doing wrong".
If he's being too nice, chances are he's cheating. Really????

I was like "WOW!", but then I thought about it, I wasn't really shocked by what she said, I just thought it was kind of dumb and kind of funny at the same time. If you take a this situation at face value, this suggests one of two things:
  1. "Men, go out there and cheat." - Why? Because in her eyes you already are. So why not have some of the pleasure to counter the cold shoulder and sexless bed that awaits you at home. Don't feel guilty, because you're just doing what she expects of you.

  2. "No more Mr. Nice Guy." - You always hear the cliche "nice guys finish last", but it really seems like it's true (in this situation at least). If you are a genuinely nice guy and you do and say nice things, because that's just how you feel, she likely thinks you're a male sex worker outside of your relationship, so ease up on the niceties.

Conversely, you can be patient with your lady and teach her and help her to learn to trust you. This does not mean you calling, texting, bbm-ing, sending smoke signals or Morse coding, giving her the play by play of your life and every move you make when you're not with her. But, instead, being open and honest in your relationship. Some of her insecurities you can help her to overcome, others she will have to work on herself, just be there to support her.

Seeeee..., That Guy has a sensitive side.

Relaaaxxxx...

It's crazy how we can get all worked up, nervous with butterflies in our stomachs over job interviews, first dates, presentations, meeting the parents or a break-up; when no sooner does it happen, it's over.

After days, weeks, or even months of agonizing, the 5, 10, or 15 minutes it takes for the initial discomfort to wear off, you feel fine and relaxed. Leaving you wondering, "what was I getting so worked up about in the first place".

We've all experienced this, but yet whenever faced with an uncomfortable or unfamiliar situation the same feelings and emotions occur. People are generally afraid of being put on the spot or being the centre of attention in front of people they don't know or are unfamiliar with.

My suggestion to you is when you start to feel nervous, anxious or uncomfortable about a situation that has not yet happened:
  1. take a deep breath
  2. run through in your mind the reasons why you feel this way
  3. be confident in who you are
  4. use the opportunity to assert yourself
  5. showcase who you are
  6. smile!

By breathing, you're telling your body to relax. Going through the reasons why you feel nervous, or uncomfortable may make you realize how silly you're being. If you are confident in who you are, this will reduce or eliminate the fear of not been respected. As you assert yourself, people will be encouraged to respect you and this will also help to boost your own confidence. Showcasing who you are, will give your audience the feeling of being at "your show", where you're the star. Finally, smiling is the most disarming thing you can do, aggression, tension, resistance can all often be calmed with a smile or a laugh.

And finally ... just relax, what's the worst that could happen?

Gossip Guy?


I think the modern man, gossips more than the woman.

Actually no wait, what we men do is not gossiping, it's more shit talking, bragging, boasting and trading war stories.

Woman gossip, questioning what someone at work was wearing, how her date stayed in the corner all night at the party, why would she cut her hair like that, the colour of her nails, the curvature of her eyebrows and on and on and on.

While the men I know are not quite that bad, yet, they do tend to have similar conversations: poking fun at their muscle bound friend who buys XS shirts, questioning the manhood of their friend who lets their girlfriend walk all over them, making fun of the mohawk hair style that one follower friend just had to get, questioning if any friend that has recently started going to the gym is on steroids or discussing peoples relationships starting with "If I were him, I'd...".

Now that I think about it, I wonder if this is in fact a problem of gossip or passing on information or more so one of JEALOUSY.

Actually no I don't wonder, I know that it is. The world or more so the city we live in, its one of people not being happy for you, what you have? are doing? Instead, questioning why you have what you have? or how you got where you are? how you got with that girl? did you really get with that girl? why you have more money than I? why you dress so fly?

I say be happy with who you are, instead of being jealous of someone else, let what you see in them be motivation if you want to attain or achieve the same success or material gains. As you move through life remember that if you think that you'd rather be someone else, realize that if you were to change places with someone, know that you would no longer have your problems TRUE, but you would then have their problems.

This holiday seasons film recommendation: Trading Places (w/ Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd).
While it's a comedy there is a lot to be learned from the events that transpire in the movie.

Racism still exists ... believe it.


Mother's, a popular night club in Chicago, appears to be reinstating Jim Crow laws as they recently barred entry to six African-American patrons. The six students were part of a senior class trip of 200 students from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and had made plans to visit the establishment. Upon trying to entering the venue, the Black students were denied entry and were told it was because their pants were too baggy.
Not believing the hype, a white student switched pants with one of his classmates and tried the entry process again. Lo and behold, the white student was still allowed in while the Black student was left outside.
The students have filed complaints with the Chicago Human Rights Commission, the Illinois Attorney General and the U.S. Department of Justice.
The management of Mother's has stated that there is an internal investigation but racism was not the cause. Their concern was reportedly safety issues.
Yeah right.

What's the difference between a joke and a lie?


Has anyone ever had you believe something that was not true for an extended period of time, then to say once you confront them about it ... "it was a joke".

That's not a joke, that's what you call a LIE.

To me ... a joke is meant to be shared and enjoyed at the time it is made (except for those slow people who get it a few hours later). (ex "What did the hand say to the face? SMACK!")

Conversely ... a lie is stating something opposite to or in direct contradiction to the truth.

I know I've been guilt of saying the most random ridiculous things and to help the audience feel less offensive, break the tension with a "just joking". But that's completely different.

Ex. "I want to have a threesome with you and your sister."
"What?!?!?"
"Just joking"
-funny-

Versus

Ex. "I think I might have given you something, you should go to the doctor right away and get checked out, because I'm on my way now ... I'm so sorry"
"Damn! Ok thanks for the heads up."
(Week or 2 later)
"Did you get checked out? haha ..."
"Yeah I did, whats so funny?"
"Hahaha ... I was only joking."

Heads up to all lying jokers. The next person who tells a joke lie to me ... I'm going to calmly raise my hand from my side, if in that time you don't realize what is happening, I'm sure you soon will.

Highschool, Workplace ... what's the difference?

Is this an office building or a high school?

Next time you're in the office at work, take a look around and observe the interaction between people. Tell me if it doesn't feel strikingly familiar or like something you experienced before. Not sure what I'm talking about ... then look harder.

If you work in an office, have eyes and ears you should have quickly noticed, shortly after being hired, that it is very similar to high school. The parallels are not very easily missed, but if they have been allow me to point them out:
  • there are cliques of individuals (cool group, brownnosers, rebels)

  • break room, lunch room or cafeteria is divided into these groups

  • jealousy among employees is similar to that of students (girls still bicker over the cute guy)

  • your cubicle is the grown up equivalent to your locker (put up pictures, toys, souvenirs)

  • smokers corner (where the cool kids hang)

  • pizza day is still the highlight of any week

  • meetings are equivalent to assemblies, where you get away from your desk and scope the members of the opposite sex that you don't see on a regular basis

  • morning break is like recess or spare, people huddle and congregate in the cafeteria or hallways until management (principles) pass through, signaling return to your cubicle

  • many people rep their work just as they did their school, but only for as long as they are employees there, if they change companies tomorrow, suddenly that's the best company ever

  • a new employee is like Christmas for the guys or girls depending (like when a new kid transfers to your school)

These are just a few of the similarities that readily come to mind, I'm sure there are countless more. Likely this list has sparked some thoughts in your minds. Don't think for any reason I am pointing these things out as negatives or drawbacks of the workplace, I am simply making observations.

In fact, this realization should make the transition for students to the workplace that much easier, because it should all be very familiar to them.

Imagine ...

Remember when you were a little kid and your biggest worry or concern was which cars to play with, or which peice you would be when you played Monopoly with your siblings.
You'd play games like cars (with the little Hot Wheels and Majorettes), board games, Nintendo, ride you bike aimlessly around the neighbourhood, go to the corner store for 5cent candies, buy ice cream from the Dickie Dee cart, play basketball until your feet were blisters and had salt deposits behind your ears.

Ahhh .. those were the good old days.

You'd play games like imagine ... while you sit on the green box or layed out on the grass and watched the sun set, watched the clouds inch by or cars drive by with the booming system. You had not a care in the world.

I don't know about you but I didn't imagine working my whole life away ... I did however go through the Consumer's catalogue (remember Consumers Distributing) and pickout all the things I wanted to buy and have. How many of you sat there and said ... I want to work a dead end job, where I'm underpaid and under appreciated and barely get paid enough to cover my bills? I know I did.

It's just interesting to look back and remember when you were a kid and you used to complain about school and homework and you parents would tell you ... "school days are the best days of your life", I used to be like .. "yaaa right mum". Damn hindsight really is 20/20. To be a kid again when you're biggest concern is your math test on Friday, or the upcoming track meet or basketball game, semi-formal, asking the pretty girl out to the movie, first boy-girl party, playing spin the bottle for the first time.

I guess the lesson in all of this is to live and enjoy everyday of this life you live and understand and appreciate the fact that every day and year that you're older is a privilege and a gift. Not everyone you knew when you were a kid has made it to the age that you are or is doing as well as you. Don't worry and occupy yourself with what you don't have and what you want, but rather with who you are and what you already have.

Life is what you make it, don't fake it or take it for granted.

People always wonder when they're in a relationships ... "If she the one for me?", "Could he be my knight in shinning armour?" or "Will they be there for me through thick in thin?".

We at twograsshoppers have developed a foul proof way to figure this out.

Instead of agonizing or worrying about "the signs" that you've met the man or woman of your dreams, stop, take a step back and wonder to yourself, "Would I go on the reality show The Amazing Race with this person? and How would we do?" (If you've never seen the show then rent, borrow or buy the DVDs and see for yourself what I'm talking about.)

If after a moments thought, the answer comes back "YES!", then this is the person you should be with, because they will undoubtedly hold you down and stick with you through difficult and trying times.

Like any aspect of life in relationships there will be sunny days as well as dark stormy days, times when you'll think to yourself "FML" (ef my life). The difference will be that when life's host hands you $100 and says "make this last you for the next week, while completing these challenges", you'll look to your partner and figure out how to make it happen.

My mind wanders ...


Sometimes my mind cant help by wander.

Nas has a lyric ... "I knew I'd get married, to who I knew not", speaking of his relationship and how he knew before he even met Kelis, that she was the woman he would marry. Granted, after anything happens you can sit back and in hindsight comment on what you were thinking and feeling, but no one really knows how true that is.

Question then, ... Is it really possible to "see someone" in your mind before you ever actually see them in person? Further ... Can you know someone exists, if you've never seen them or heard them before?

Whoa whoa whoa ... let me back track, not trying to get all spiritual or introspective, but think about it.

When you see someone and they look so familiar, yes you may have seen them before, but is it not possible that you've never seen them before but in your minds eye or in your dreams.

To me its fascinating to think about what goes on in each individuals mind when they close their eyes to sleep. You all should know what I mean, as I'm sure you've woken up like ... "wtf?!" or curse your alarm because you weren't ready to get up just yet, because you wanted to see how your dream would end, or what might happen next.

The reason why I say all this, is becuase when I have "deja vu", it's often something that first happened in my dream and then manifests itself in real life. Trippy right? I know ... but its true. I've tested this theory over and over and I'm at the point now, that when I have a dream (that I remember), I expect that I will live it out. Maybe in a few days, months or years for that matter.

But I digress ... don't believe it because That Guy said it, give it some thought.

Ps. I'm not crazy .... well at least I don't think I am.

The Countdown


Have you noticed that everything in life seems to be a countdown?

Whether it's the microwave for your food, the days of the week until the weekend, the mileage left in a tank of gas, the number of hours in the day, years until retirement, we as a society seem obsessed with knowing and waiting for the end to come.

I find the whole notion a little depressing; as its not an overly optimistic way of looking at life.

After the countdown is up or hits zero; the question I have is, then what? or what comes next? After you've counted down the week, you hope that there will be another. Why countdown the hours of the day instead of trying to enjoy it the best you can. The constant countdown or reminder of the years left until retirement should be an eye opener to the years left in our life. We all seem so consumed by time and in a rush, next time you find yourself rushing here or "soooo busy", take a moment to wonder why and if its worth it.

Be careful not to wish the day faster, hope the week ends sooner or that the years pass more quickly, because you'll just be wishing your life away.
