Who Are Our Role Models?

I was watching the movie Role Models this weekend
and it made me think to myself, who do we as individuals
look up to?

Of course we now have Obama who has achieved the
unthinkable and his wife Michelle who as a couple are a
representation of a solid family unit. But what other modern
day celebrities are the epitome for positive growth?
Women no longer look up to other females for their career
achievements; it's all about the physical. Every girl wants to
look like a video vixen or similar to the likes of Superhead,
Amber Rose, Vida Guerra or Coco. Concepts such as sleeping
to the top or being seen rather than being heard have filled the
minds of women all over. What ever happened to working hard
and following your dreams?

As for men, it is now the norm to cheat, sleep around and
make babies with as many women as possible. Or better yet,
randomly shooting at people in broad daylight. In today's society,
this is what makes you a man; no discipline or empathy for
anyone elses feelings.

And to confuse our youth even more, we have the new "it's okay
to be gay" attitude. We have men walking around dressed as
women and tv stations like MTV airing shows like Tila Tequila who
confused about their sexual orientation.

As a parent, these ideals that encompass the new generation
are scary. Children and teenagers actually look up to
celebrities as visions of who they want to be when they grow up.
It is evident that we cannot rely on the media to teach morals
and set positive examples for the new generation. We can only
rely on ourselves to make positive change within those around
us.
