  1. Develop mentoring relationships - connect with a senior person in the company who can provide you with some insight into the company's structure and procedures.


  2. Quantify results - keep a record of all that you do that helps or contributes to your company's bottom line and goals.


  3. Practice self-promotion - "sell yourself", make sure it is known how great you are at your job and how much of an asset you are to the company.


  4. Establish a bond with your boss - this is the ultimate link between you and any upward mobility, they decide whether they keep you at bay or allow you to grow.


  5. Acquire new knowledge and skills - stay on top of and gain as much new and relevant industry knowledge you can.
